Tea prices have risen to record high at the recently held first eAuction, according to John Keells Ltd.
It said the inaugural e-platform tea auction held from 4 to 8 April achieved record high elevation averages with a total average of Rs.664.84 per kilo for the sale.
“Low Grown elevation average recorded at Rs.701.67 per kilo followed by High Growns at Rs.640.37 per kilo and the Mediums at Rs.590.56 per kilo,” John Keells said.
It said a lapse of tea auctions for over two weeks and the limited quantity on offer resulted in the buoyant prices. With the exception of Mombasa, auctions around the world being postponed had a positive impact on the higher prices, it added.
