SriLankan Airlines from today will begin operation of passenger flights to limited destinations such as London, Tokyo, Melbourne and Hong Kong.
“Taking into consideration the reopening of economic activity in the world followed by easing of some travel restrictions between countries, SriLankan Airlines is now offering services to passengers who are eligible to travel under the respective country travel advisories to London, Tokyo (Narita), Melbourne and Hong Kong and beyond,” the airline said in a statement.
Passengers who wish to travel to these destinations or beyond can also now purchase their tickets through SriLankan offices or through the nearest travel agent.
Currently most governments are allowing travellers stranded overseas to return to their countries subject to stipulated validity of the respective travel documentation and periods of quarantine.
“Passengers who wish to travel using these new flights are reminded to ensure that they are eligible to enter the respective countries depending on the restrictions imposed by regulatory authorities in each country. Passengers who intend to travel under this scheme are kindly requested check their respective boarder control or emigration authorities or contact their travel agents before purchasing any tickets,” SriLankan Airlines said.
The national carrier will operate its special cargo flights to 17 destinations, to support Sri Lanka’s export industries during this time of crisis.
These special cargo flights include three weekly flights to Male, two flights a week to Chennai, Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Doha, Dubai, Melbourne, Beijing, Guangzhou (Canton) and Shanghai while a weekly flight to Mumbai, Karachi, Lahore, Dhaka, Frankfurt, and Tokyo (Narita) will operate.
The flights to London, Tokyo (Narita), Melbourne and Hong Kong will operate for both passengers and cargo.
