SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of the oneworld alliance, celebrated 40 years of operations, at Airline Centre, Katunayake recently. State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne was the Chief Guest of the occasion. SriLankan Airlines Chairman G.S. Withanage, Chief Executive Officer Vipula Gunatilleka and many staff members were present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said, “It is a proud moment for all of us that SriLankan Airlines marks 40 years of services. History of our aviation runs far back to over 70 years. We are looking to a future where the national carrier is empowered to continue its mission of taking Sri Lanka to the world.” SriLankan Airlines Chairman Withanage said, “As the national carrier, SriLankan is a significant contributor to the national economy and a catalyst in our country’s tourism industry. We should be proud to be a part of such an institution.”
The highlight of the event was recognising 18 staff members who complete 40 years of service this year. Appreciating their dedication and commitment, SriLankan Airlines, CEO Gunatilleka said, “We have 18 members of staff who have been with us through these eventful and memorable 40 years. I thanked all our customers, staff and all other stakeholders who stood by us and supported us during our 40 year old journey.”
