A Special Investigation Unit is to be established to trace out complaints pertaining to the institutions under the purview of the Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Services Ministry.
The unit is tasked with investigating complaints related to passenger difficulties at the airport, harassment and related complaints of passengers, passenger issues on SriLankan Airlines, investors’ problems and barriers to free trade at the institutions under the purview of the Ministry.
Minister of Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Services Prasanna Ranatunga said that he has instructed Industrial Export and Investment Promotion Ministry Secretary Mapa Pathirana and Tourism and Aviation Services Ministry Secretary Marina Mohamed to take prompt action.
Accordingly, the two secretaries will appoint a group of expertise to probe industrial export, investment promotion, tourism and aviation complaints received by the general public as well as from internal sources on the wrong doings.
There are eight institutions under Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Services Ministry which includes, Airports and Aviation Services (AASL), SriLankan Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority (CASL), Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLDA), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) and Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB).
The Minister pointed out that he has received several complaints regarding the difficulties faced by the general public as well as internal sources when dealing with some of these institutions.
