The Special High Court yesterday issued summons to Former Defence Secretary GotabhayaRajapaksa and five others to appear before the Court on 10 September over misappropriation of fundsto erect the D. A. Rajapaksa statue in Weeraketiya, Madamulana.
The case, heard as the second in the Special High Court,was filed under the Public Property Act by the Attorney General.
Along with Rajapaksa, warrants have been issued to Former Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC)Chairman Liyanarachchige Prasad Harshana de Silva, General Manager Badra Dulawathi Kamaladasa, Susammika Keminda Atigala, Saman Kumara Galappatti, M. D. Mahinda Saliya, and M. A. Mallika to appear in Court in order to present them with charge sheets.
The AG filed the case against the six individuals under Criminal Breach of Trust in handling funds belonging to the SLLRDC.
Accordingly, 49 charges have been filed against the six accused of criminal breach of trust for misappropriating close to Rs. 49 million. The AG told the Special Courts that the accused have committed the offences listed under the Money Laundering Act, Penal Code and Public Property act, and that he is ready to produce evidence and witnesses to prove the allegations.
