Seventeen vying for presidency so far

• JVP leader’s deposit paid yesterday; to contest from National People’s Power Movement
• UNP nominee Premadasa yet to make deposit
• Seventeen presidential aspirants have so far paid cash deposits to Election Commission

Four cash deposits were made yesterday to the Elections Commission, including that of JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, who will contest from the National People’s Power Movement.

Among those who have paid deposits so far are nine who will contest from political parties, while eight will contest as independent candidates.

UNP nominee Sajith Premadasa is yet to pay his deposit money.

Prospective candidates have until 12 noon on 6 October to make their deposits.
