In a bid to heighten the voice calling capacity of users, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the country’s National Telecommunication Services provider recently launched Asia’s first ever ‘Voice App’ increasing mobility of landlines.

CEO Kiththi Perera

Introducing the SLT Voice App, SLT CEO Kiththi Perera said, “Through this app, we have addressed the issue of immobility. The solution that we are launching today is for the first time in Asia. Although there might be similar products, this is unique. It is a ground-breaking product where the traditional phone is reinvented and is brought to a simple interface. If you download the Voice App, you will get the SLT fixed line onto your mobile. We went through a lot of research and development with our technical and product development teams to finally come up with this app and, this will be the interface you will use to take and receive your calls through the SLT fixed line. This is a way of reinventing the way people used fixed line telephone services. The telephone is no longer an idling device; now it is connected to your mobile phones.”

The feasible mobility of the SLT Voice App will serve the working professionals, executive personnel, teenagers, young adults and also SLT Broadband customers in Sri Lanka who use smart devices such as smart phones and tablets. Moreover, the virtual contact list available in the app is to provide easy access to contacts.

The customer will be able to connect his/her landline connection with up to four other smart devices of choice. The SLT Voice App can be downloaded from ‘Play Store’ for Android users and ‘Apple Store’ for Apple users.  Registered callers will be able to make and receive uninterrupted clarity voice calls conveniently through SLT Wi-Fi networks. Calling services such as “WhatsApp” and “Viber” require the same app in both calling and receiving ends along with continuous internet connectivity. Users can also make a call to any phone from anywhere via SLT Wi-Fi network.

The SLT Voice App further consists of unique features like device independence, location independence, enhanced privacy and enhanced Paymaster control. SLT landline is to allow Paymaster to manage the voice communication budget of the family dependents in an efficient way.

According to Perera, Voice App users will be entitled to free minute voice calls on the registered SLT voice package, while there will be low calling rates for the calls taken through the app. He noted that SLT is investing in developing the connectivity infrastructure and cloud infrastructure of the country. He said that the key strategy behind every move of SLT is to create value to its customers.

SLT Chief Operating Officer Priyantha Fernandez, who also spoke at the launching ceremony, said that innovative ideas of the employees of SLT are now being given prominence to improve employ satisfaction. He stated that since SLT has innovated and transformed itself and the infrastructure continuously, SLT was ready to face and grow with digital transformation.
