JVP Leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday charged that the Sri Lankan ruling party leaders are conspicuous by their silence over the Pandora Papers exposure.
JVP Leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday at a media briefing said Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was quick to vow proper probe and action against their nationals mentioned in the Pandora Papers.
“However, in Sri Lanka, the leaders are silent. This is not a surprise,” he said, adding that Pandora Papers exposed the Rajapaksa regime’s relative and former Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Tiru Nadesan, alleging $ 160 million in unaccounted wealth.
Dissanayake said that corruption is rampant and that any global exposure now includes politically linked persons from Sri Lanka. He recalled the Panama Papers, the UK’s Serious Fraud Office probe on Airbus transactions with Sri Lanka and few other countries as well as millions of dollars paid to US lobbyists Imaad Zuberi through Central Bank from 2012-2014 when Nivard Cabraal was the Governor to “rebuild Sri Lanka’s image.”
“These revelations confirm how corrupt the Rajapaksa regime is,” alleged the JVP Leader.
