Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko toured the Hambantota International Port (HIP) during his visit to Sri Lanka last week.
During discussions with the port’s top officials, he had shown keen interest in the potential to develop regional distribution of fertiliser via the Hambantota International Port.
“This is well in line with the port’s plans as the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) was already investigating possibilities in this regard,” HIPG General Manager Commercial and Marketing Lance Zuo said.
HIPG, which has entered into a business venture partnership with a reputed fertiliser bagging operator, is now gearing up to launch fertiliser transhipment operations. This is another step closer to the port’s vision of becoming a regional transhipment hub for fertiliser and bulk business.
