Russia’s ‘Red Wings’ Airline operated its first flight to Sri Lanka’s Mattala International Airport bringing 412 passengers as tourists for the Winter season from Moscow.
The airline will operate twice a week service to Sri Lanka.
The maiden flight was welcomed with water salutes by two fire fighter trucks at the runway at the Mattala airport.
Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Sirpala de Silva welcomed the passengers in the inaugural flight. Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Chairman Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri and several high officials were also present.
“The start of flights to Sri Lanka is a new milestone – a remarkable event for Red Wings, passengers and our countries,” the airline’s General Director Evgeny Solodilin said in a statement.
