Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. (PTL) owner Arjun Aloysius were granted bail by the Colombo High Court yesterday hours after indictments were served to them in a bribery case.
They were released on cash bail of Rs. 500,000 and sureties of Rs. 5 million each by Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendige.
Karunanayake and Aloysius were also issued an overseas travel ban and directed to surrender their passports. The travel ban will remain in place until the conclusion of the case.
Ravi Karunanayake has been charged with committing an offence under the Bribery Act by accepting a housing unit at the Monarch apartment complex when he was serving as a Minister from a private company in which Aloysius was a Director.
Aloysius has been indicted under the Bribery Act for aiding and abetting this act.
The case will be taken up again on 12 February.
