All leading private commercial banks have formally notified the closure of their branches for customers until next Monday (14 June).
This is due to the ongoing travel restrictions, though the partial lockdown has been in operation for several weeks now. The closure includes 365-day banking branches or those that provide extended banking services. However, banks have said customers could avail themselves of the banking services via online, digital and mobile channels.
State banks were declared an essential service despite the partial lockdown, and until last week, some of the private banks kept important branches open for limited hours or for urgent matters. The Daily FT learns the formal notice is on the instruction of the Police.
