Presidential poll between 15 Nov-7 Dec: Election Chief

The next Presidential Election will be held on a day between 15 November and 7 December, Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said.

The nominations for the poll will have to be called on or before 20 October, he said, adding that unless there is a legal impediment to holding the poll on the due day, the election will be held on schedule. 

Deshapriya said the Commission will begin the preliminary preparations for the Presidential poll by August. Under the Constitution, a new President has to be sworn in by January 8, 2020.
