President Maithripala Sirisena has assured the members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that he will abide by the pronouncement of the Court of Appeal and take appropriate action during the next 24 hours.
Following the Order by the Court of Appeal, President Sirisena has met with TNA leadership to discuss the present political impasse.
The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an Interim Order restraining Mahinda Rajapaksa and his purported Cabinet of Ministers from holding public office until 12 December.
TNA Parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran said at the meeting that President Sirisena said, in terms of the Court Order, there is no Prime Minister nor a Government at present, and that he will take necessary action accordingly within the next 24 hours.
The President would meet with the National Security Council and other relevant officials tonight, MP Sumanthiran said.
