The debate on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill which was scheduled for today will not take place as Parliament by yesterday hadn’t received the Supreme Court’s determination on the Bill.
The decision to delay the debate was taken at the Parliamentary Business Committee meeting chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said Parliament had not received the determination of the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the Bill yet.
Several petitions were filed in the SC on grounds that some clauses in the Bill were inconsistent with the Constitution.
Parliament will instead have an adjournment debate on the current COVID-19 situation in the country today. This debate will be held from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
