The Peliyagoda fish market will reopen for trade today after the 529 people working there tested negative for COVID-19.
The fish market was closed earlier this week after a fishmonger from Pepiliyana tested positive for the virus and was found to have visited the market last Sunday (19 April).
The market was swiftly closed, and the Ministry of Health proceeded to conduct the largest number of onsite tests in a single area. As the PCR tests had yielded negative results, the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry decided to reopen the facility.
