Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday requested State sector workers who are engaged in non-essential services to not report to work today in a bid to conserve fuel.

“Except those engaged in essential services, I request others not to report to work on Friday and for everyone else to limit non-essential travel. Over the weekend, the fuel shortage will be resolved,” Wickremesinghe told Parliament.

He said payments have been made for fuel and the stocks purchased will suffice till mid-June.

The Prime Minister added that it was important to have a fuel reserve, so that any delay in a shipment would not lead to a shortage.
