Nov consumer inflation eases slightly to 7.6%

Reuters - Consumer prices in November rose 7.6% from a year earlier, easing from a record high of 7.8% the previous month, Government data showed on Thursday.

Core annual inflation, which excludes fresh food, energy, transport, rice and coconuts, was at 5.2% in November on an annual basis, down from the previous month’s 5.8%. The index has a revised base year of 2013 and market basket. 

On a month-on-month basis, the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) rose 1.2% this month, compared with a 0.9% rise in October, data from the Department of Census and Statistics showed.

The inflation rate in November as measured on a 12-month moving average basis rose to a record high of 6.4% from the previous month’s 6.1%.
