The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd., yesterday called on the public to use alternative routes to avoid heavy traffic congestion near the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Following Easter Sunday attacks, the AASL beefed up security at BIA and surrounding areas. However, due to these security measures it had caused heavy traffic near BIA with general public also having to use the main road connecting Minuwangoda and Katunayake, AASL said in a statement yesterday.
The AASL has requested general public to use the Minuwangoda – Ja-Ela diversion instead of the using the Minuwangoda – Katunayake road to enter the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway.
The AASL also urged commuters using the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway exit to go to Minuwangoda and Kurunegala to instead use the Ja-Ela exit to reach those destinations.
Further, the AASL called on general public to minimise their use of Minuwangoda - Katunayake road running in front of BIA and use alternative roads as much as possible to reach destinations such as Negombo and Katunayake.
