The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka yesterday said it was grateful to Sri Lanka’s Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa for gracing the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
On behalf of Ambassador Sugiyama Akira, the Minister and Deputy Head of Mission Kitamura Toshihiro met with Rajapaksa yesterday just before his departure to Tokyo.
During the meeting, Kitamura expressed sincere appreciation to Minister Rajapaksa for visiting Japan to grace the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which will be held on 23 July and wished the Sri Lankan contingents all the best in their great matches ahead.
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be held from 23 July to 8 August and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be held from 24 August to 5 September in Japan. Japan is determined to ensure that the Games, as a symbol of global unity in overcoming COVID-19, are safe and secure for all people by putting strict precautionary measures in place.
