Macksons Holdings, manufacturers of Multilac, Macktiles and a conglomerate of building materials, yesterday announced a minimum per head salary increment of Rs. 5,000 upwards for its entire workforce.
The move comes hours after the Government announced that the state sector workers would be given a Rs. 5,000 monthly allowance, and in keeping with the request made by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa for the private sector to consider a similar gesture.
Group CEO Shimmer Milfer said: “It is the responsibility of every employer to prioritise the needs and wellbeing of their employees during these difficult and uncertain times.”
Macksons Holdings has over 3,000 employees, and since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has taken measures to ensure the welfare of the workers.
Multilac is also the first paint brand in Sri Lanka to have obtained the Green Label Certification and have also been certified as lead-safe by the IPEN Institute of America. They are the only company in Sri Lanka, and one of the first three companies in the world, to be certified as lead-safe by a prestigious institution such as IPEN USA.
In addition to its popular paint company, which is among the top paint manufacturers in the country and also Sri Lanka’s largest paint exporter under the brand name ‘Multilac’, Macksons Holdings is also the market leader in the general hardware segment with Mans Lanka and Macks Marketing.
These business entities cater to every nook and corner of the country by distributing popular brands such as Chillington Crocodile Mammoties, MEN Power Tools, Morse Hacksaw Blades, Valencia locks, Pakfans, Tramontina Tools, Bajaj electricals, Glitorium locks, Ford generators and over 10,000 varieties of hardware products sourced globally.
The company also manufactures tiles under the brand name ‘Macktiles’ and contributes immensely to the local economy by reducing the outflow of foreign exchange with the local production of quality Sri Lankan origin tiles.
“As a homegrown conglomerate, our DNA is to add value to our Sri Lankan origin products and upgrade the living standards of our employees,” said Milfer.
