Board of Investment Chairman Sanjaya Mohottala has reiterated his desire to step down from his post to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during a meeting last week.
Mohottala, in a statement, further said that he was grateful to President Rajapaksa for placing the highest confidence in him and the Board and for requesting them to continue to serve and contribute effectively to promote foreign investments to help the post-COVID economic transformation of Sri Lanka.
“However, the Chairman has informed His Excellency of his desire to be released from his duties. He requested for a new leadership team to be appointed, so that they may continue with the efforts already made to further improve the services offered to investors, and thereby, realise the vision set out by the Government of Sri Lanka to double GDP over a decade,” Mohottala’s statement added.
The BOI Chairman, Director-General Pasan Wanigasekara and Board members Dr. Harsha Cabral PC, Sanjaya Kulatunga and Harsha Subasinghe, all personally selected and appointed by President Rajapaksa, resigned early this month due to differences of opinion between the Board, senior management and unionised employees of the BOI.
