Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director General Malraj B. Kiriella will be relinquishing duties as the Director General of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority from the end of this month.
A multidisciplinary professional with over 18 years of experience at Sri Lanka Tourism, Kiriella has held positions of Director Research and International Relations, Director Marketing, Director Corporate Services and Director Standards and Quality Assurance in both Sri Lanka (Ceylon) Tourist Board and Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
Before joining the Ceylon Tourist Board in 1999 he has worked at SriLankan Airlines.
He has also worked as the Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau. He was appointed to his current position in 2015.
Kiriella is a chartered marketer, economist and attorney-at-law by profession and also a graduate of the University of Colombo in both Bachelors and Masters in Economics. He holds an LLB from the University of Colombo and has obtained many more qualifications from leading institutions, both locally and internationally.
Kiriella was instrumental in establishing the new enforcement unit and absorption of informal sector organisations with legal framework, introducing of tourist-friendly eating places – a novel concept of upgrading the standards of SME places serving food to locals and foreigners, and the mega domestic tourism campaign ‘Loving Sri Lanka – See, Feel and Protect,’ a program with a view to develop sustainable tourism development in Sri Lanka during his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of the SLTDA while attending to the enhancement of main tourism products in Sri Lanka.
Kiriella is the current President of the Chartered Management Institute UK Sri Lanka Branch and also a Vice President of the Sri Lanka Economic Association. He wishes to engage more in the intellectual and professional spheres, while continuing to serve society and contribute towards its betterment in the future.
