Macksons Group is to set up a Rs. 6 billion bathware manufacturing plant in the Raigam Green Industrial Estate in Millaniya.
The release of the required land for the venture was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Tuesday.
The approval of the proposal presented by Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa was for 20 acres of undeveloped land adjoining the New Chattel Estate belonging to the Land Reforms Commission, which is currently under development for the construction of an Industrial and Technological Zone (Raigama Green Industrial Zone) in the Millaniya Division in the Kalutara District.
Macksons Bathware Ltd. will be given the land on a 35-year long-term lease.
The Cabinet, in June last year, approved a special program to provide investment opportunities for locating industries and developing businesses at the Divisional Secretariat level and this week’s approval to Macksons is a part of that strategy.
Macksons has diversified business interests, including floor tiles, paints, hardware, agri and electrical tools, leisure, lifestyle and cosmetics, plastics, power and energy, properties and motor.
