Cabinet this week approved a proposal by the Minister of Tourism to expand the Board of Investment (BOI) Industrial Park in Kandy, using 5.55 hectares of adjacent State land.
Under the proposal, the Ministry of Tourism will hand over the land to the BOI as a free grant. The Kandy Industrial Park, established in 1994, currently covers 195 acres. According to the Government, 120 acres of the park have been allotted for 26 industries.
The Government has earlier expressed its interest in developing or expanding investment zones to promote exports. As part of its efforts the Government is working to establish a pharmaceutical zone and a dedicated apparel zone in Batticaloa.
