The Indian national who was alleged to have plotted the assassination of VVIPs is said to be suffering from a mental disorder.
Indian High Commission sources said it has media reports that an Indian national, claiming to have information about threats to lives of prominent Sri Lankan leaders, was detained by the Sri Lankan Police.
Taking serious note of the matter and acting on limited information provided by Sri Lankan authorities, the Indian High Commission had alerted India to conduct a background check of the said individual.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the said individual has had a history of mental disturbance since 2000,” a spokesman for the Indian High Commission said.
“We have shared the details with the Sri Lankan authorities and have assured them of full assistance and cooperation for conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the matter,” the spokesman added.
