Immigration Dept. hikes Visa charges for several categories

  • Notable price transformation from rupees to dollars 

Visa charges for several categories including the issuance of dual citizenship and issuance of visas for children of Sri Lankan parents holding foreign passports have been raised. 

Issuing a statement the Immigration and Emigration Department noted that the increased rates will come into effect from 1 December.

As per the proposed fee revision, it is noticeable that the majority of prices have been quoted in dollars, whereas in the past it was charged in rupees. 

The Department said the move is a proposal announced in the 2023 Budget.

To issue dual citizenship under the Citizenship Act has been raised from Rs. 345,000 to $ 2,000, whilst the fee levied for the issuance of dual citizenship to a spouse/child under 22 years of age applicants who is entitled to dual citizenship has been increased from Rs. 57,000 to $ 500.

In addition, a fee to obtain Electronic Travel Authorisation (online) has also been raised from $ 35 to $ 50 for tourists and $ 55 for business categories, while ETA on arrival has been hiked from $ 40 to $ 60 for tourists and $ 65 for business categories.

The charge for the issuance of visas for children of Sri Lankan parents holding a foreign passport has also been amended to $ 150. Earlier, this service was provided free of charge for children less than 16 years of age.
