The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) yesterday hailed Litro for guaranteeing supply of LPG to its members, thereby ensuring continuous operations to earn much needed foreign exchange.
THASL President M. Shanthikumar said the assurance was given by Litro GAS Lanka Chairman Muditha Peiris during a recent meeting and that it is in a position to guarantee a continuous supply of LPG for the next four months for the hotels sector. This was subsequent to signing the World Bank funded agreement with the LPG supplier.
“We are sincerely grateful to Litro Chairman for his understanding of the value of tourism to the economy and the untiring efforts he and his team, together with the Government officials, took to obtain a constant supply of LPG thus enabling Sri Lanka tourism to bounce back and open the doors to earning more dollars for our coffers,” Shanthikumar said.
The unavailability of LPG over the past months posed a difficult situation for hoteliers as they struggled to provide the required services for foreign guests. “In that context we hail this assurance from the Litro Chairman and we live with renewed hope for the upcoming tourist season,” Shanthikumar added.
He said THASL is determined to continue to offer a world class visitor experience in accommodation to travellers, who visit the island for its geographical location, historical monuments, cultural values, gastronomical delights and the warmth of our people. The industry is poised to offer better growth plans, to enhance foreign investments amidst the prevalent challenges.
THASL Chief also emphasised the leisure industry is the second largest foreign exchange earner in the Sri Lankan economy. The Government has positioned tourism as one of the most important pillars of the economy due to its potential to bring in foreign exchange.
