With the resignation of the Governor and pending a successor, the Central Bank has postponed the April monetary policy review which was scheduled for yesterday.
Post the pre-scheduled meeting, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) was to release the statement today followed by a press conference.
Speculation was rife over who will be appointed as the new Governor of CBSL. One was former Senior Deputy Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and existing Monetary Board member Dr. Ranee Jayamaha whilst some suggested former Deputy Governor and FT Columnist W.A. Wijewardena and Institute of Policy Studies Executive Director Dr. Dushni Weerakoon are better suited.
