Hatton National Bank last night won the coveted ‘Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2022’ at the 19th Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Sampath Bank and Nestlé Lanka were adjudged the first and second runners up respectively.
The annual BCCS Awards is the premier corporate citizenship award, and highlights sustainability champions in the national corporate arena. The awards promote corporate citizen sustainability ownership and initiatives that deliver social and environmental benefits while pursuing profits.
Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company walked away with the Category B ‘Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2022’, awarded to companies with an annual turnover below Rs. 15 billion, while Talawakelle Tea Estates and Elpitiya Plantations were awarded as the respective first and second runners-up in this category.
Top 10 Corporate Citizens
This award recognises the top 10 corporates which have implemented outstanding sustainability initiatives under both ‘Category A & B’. Aitken Spence, CBL Investments Ltd. (CBL Group), Citizens Development Business Finance, Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company, Elpitiya Plantations, Hatton National Bank, National Development Bank, Nestlé Lanka, Sampath Bank and Talawakelle Tea Estates were adjudged the Top 10 Corporate Citizens of 2022.
Triple Bottom-line awards
Awarded to companies with the best performance in the three sustainability pillars of Planet (Environmental Sustainability), People (Social Sustainability) and Profit (Economic Sustainability), Nestlé Lanka and Elpitiya Plantations were joint winners of the Award for Environmental Sustainability, while Sampath Bank and Bank of Ceylon were awarded the Social Sustainability and Economic Sustainability Awards respectively.
Category awards
Winners of the category awards were Talawakelle Tea Estates – Corporate Environmental Commitment, Nestlé Lanka – Environmental Integration, and Financial Performance, Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company – Environment Beyond the Business, Unilever Sri Lanka – Employee Relations, Aitken Spence – Customer Relations, Sampath Bank – Community Relations, Hatton National Bank – Governance, Bank of Ceylon and LOLC Finance as joint winners – Economic Contribution.
Sector Based Sustainability Champions
Awarding the best sustainability performance in the specific sectors corporates operate in, the winners were Talawakelle Tea Estates – Agriculture, Aitken Spence – Diversified Holdings, Hatton National Bank – Finance, Oxford College of Business – Knowledge Services, Nestlé Lanka – Manufacturing, and Sri Lanka Telecom under the sector – Other.
The award for Demonstrated Resilient Practices for COVID-19 Context was won by Aitken Spence, with Oxford College of Business and Hatton National Bank awarded as first and second runners-up respectively.
Best Projects Sustainability Awards 2022
These awards recognise the efforts of the private/public sector to engage in specific projects relating to key aspects of sustainability relevant to the organisation and in response to contextual needs. The six projects awarded under this category are; Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd. – Walk, Elpitiya Plantations – Living Green Soil, Elpitiya Plantations – Ready to be ready, Hirdaramani Industries Ltd. – “Grow your own food – Hi Waga Sangramaya”, MAS Active Trading Ltd./MAS Kreeda – Elevate, and South Asia Textiles Ltd., The Midnight.
Ceylinco Life Insurance won the Award for Best Presented Application.
