Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha de Silva on Saturday warned of dangerous consequences of the CBSL’s move to securitise workers’ remittances, stating it must be opposed.
He said that the Government should not risk the hard-earned savings of migrant workers to finance its economic and fiscal mismanagement.
“We should not pawn and keep $ 7 billion of workers’ remittances as collateral. This is dangerous,” the firebrand SJB MP warned.
He also said that CBSL had decided on the move and publicised it whilst the Budget 2022 was being read in Parliament by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
