He was responding to the CBSL new Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe’s statement backing the credentials and conduct of the remaining appointed members Sanjeeva Jayawardena, PC, and Dr. Ranee Jayamaha.
The other appointed member Samantha Kumarasinghe resigned early last week following the exit of Governor Nivard Cabraal.
“New Gov @CBSL says that only some members of Monetary Board responsible for the total destruction of the #SriLanka economy while some are not. If so, why did they not speak out? If not listened to why did they not resign? Nothing personal but the entire monetary board must go,” Harsha tweeted yesterday.
“If some members of the @CBSL are to stay on they must prove they opposed the destruction of #SriLanka by the other members. Certainly Monetary Board minutes would have registered their strong opposition and the vote against criminally negligent decisions,” he said. “And a forensic audit by independent body must be conducted on forex and monetary management. We need to know why they made the decisions they made. Who benefited? What was the loss to the economy? Who is responsible? Where is accountability?,” said Harsha in another tweet.
“I told new Gov @CBSL that I will ensure he gets the opposition support to carry out reforms. And I meant it. He thanked me profusely. That does not mean he decides who to blame and who not to for #SriLankaEconomicCrisis. Not his job. Parliament has that constitutional power,” the SJB MP added.
