The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has launched an investigation into the manner in which Police dispersed a group of peaceful protesters at Galle Face on Monday night. The HRCSL in a letter informed the Inspector General of Police to submit a report in 24 hours, detailing the reasons for the protesters being dispersed.
A total of six individuals were arrested by Police during the protest held at Galle Face on Monday evening. The protest was held to commemorate individuals who lost their lives during the people’s struggle.
Police attempted to break up the protest claiming it was illegal, around 5.30 p.m. adjacent to the Galle Face Green.
