The Government announced a raft of measures to bring down the operational costs of the Ceylon Electricity Board following a high-level meeting held yesterday. A meeting to discuss the progress and challenges of Sri Lanka’s power sector to reduce the expenditure at the CEB was chaired by Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera. Part of the CEB’s Assistant General Managers and Deputy General Managers attended the meeting whilst some DGMs connected via digital technology.
“We discussed measures that have already been taken to reduce expenses to further reduce the costs at CEB,” Minister Wijesekera said.
He also said that it was decided to introduce paperless bills and receipts from January to all CEB customers.
Minister Wijesekera also said that it was decided to regulate the fixing of street lamps and operating street lamps, whilst outsourced services are to be done with existing staff.
The Minister however said work that cannot be completed by the CEB, will be done with the assistance of Local Government Councils.
Minister Wijesekera also noted that instructions were issued to halt the ongoing construction work of the CEB’s new headquarters.
