The Government has decided to declare 24 October as the National Day for the Supply Chain to enhance awareness of the supply chains for businessmen and other related people.
The Cabinet Ministers at its meeting on Tuesday approved the proposal submitted to this effect by Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.
“Rubber which is converted to tyres successfully from rubber milk through rubber tappers to tire factories has a great demand and reputation for Sri Lanka in the international market. However, if this supply chain goes wrong at some point, the entire production line will break down; rendering it unable to compete in the global arena,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minster Bandula Gunawardena explained the importance of the supply chain by citing rubber as an example at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
He said declaring a separate day for the supply chain would provide awareness among businessmen and people who are involved in it, although there are degree programs in universities for the supply chain management
