The Government has advertised a spot tender to procure coal in the short-term as per the International Competitive Bidding process.
Taking to Twitter, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said the tender is open for registered suppliers, noting any supplier capable of providing coal with a minimum 180-day credit facility.
Minister Wijesekera also confirmed that a long-term tender for coal procurement will be advertised by next week.
The move comes after the coal tender that was awarded on 26 August was cancelled by the Cabinet of Ministers last week following the selected supplier stating the inability to perform the order over concerns about the impact on legal cases filed and payment guarantee risks.
