Sri Lanka’s first sextuplet delivery was reported from Ninewells Hospital yesterday.
According to hospital sources, three boys and three girls were delivered by a 31-year old mother via caesarean section under the direction of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Prof. Tiran Dias.
The mother and the six children are said to be in good health. Of the six babies, biggest weighed at 1.6 kg and the least around 900 g.
The babies were delivered in an order of one girl, three boys and two girls.
A total of 30 medical staff got involved in the in the operation, where one doctor and three nurses were assigned to each baby to monitor them thoroughly.
Post-delivery, the father of the sextuplets speaking to media said that he was extremely happy and appreciated the doctors, nurses and the entire staff of Ninewells for the support extended right throughout.
