Fifty Chinese couples got married yesterday in Colombo in an initiative supported by the Government to woo more Chinese tourists to Sri Lanka. The event’s main organiser Green Leaves Entertainment said there were over 500 couples registered in China, but they could not accommodate all of them at this mass wedding. The couples, along with their relatives, arrived on Saturday via three SriLankan Airlines flights from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou and will stay until 23 December. Although arrivals from China in October rose by 6.2% to 21,846, figures in the first 10 months were down 1.4% to 230,481 - AFP
