An Extraordinary Gazette has been issued allowing the import of 10 essential items through open accounts from 1 July, for a period of two months.
The essential items include rice, flour, sugar, milk powder, dried chilli, dried sprats, potatoes, red dhal, red onions and watana dhal.
The decision has been reached given the necessity to provide people with essential food items without causing a shortage.
However, the items will be imported through open accounts subject to limitations.
