Eva, the market leading sanitary napkin brand, said yesterday it has come forward to put an end to period poverty among schoolgirls with the introduction of Eva Dream.
Exclusively available in all schools across the country, Eva Dream is a quality and affordable pad which seeks to address the national need of the hour.
The launch of new product comes a day after the Government announced it was waiving of all duties on five raw materials and import of intermediate goods for local manufacture of sanitary napkins along with zero-rate VAT.
Eva Dream, a product of The Capital Maharaja Group’s ICL Brands Ltd. has spearheaded this initiative with the belief that the cost of a pad should not be an education.
The move comes in light of several parents, civil rights activists, union leaders, political figures and medical professionals stating that girls from all around Sri Lanka were missing school during their period due to the high cost of pads. The cost of this essential item has seen a sharp increase in recent times, owing to the rising cost of raw materials for production.
Given the current adverse economic situation and the detrimental effects on the progression of education, Eva Dream seeks to end this cycle. As the market leader in menstrual hygiene products, Eva has taken on this challenge by offering a product, Eva Dream, an exclusive School pack made available to schools and school going girls at a low price of Rs. 140 for a pack of eight sanitary pads.
This product is designed to meet the sanitary napkins specification and standards of Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) and approved by the same.
Capital Maharaja Group (CMG) Group Director Shanthi Bhagirathan said: “For over three decades, Eva has continued to provide the women of Sri Lanka with a personal hygiene solution that is embedded with quality, trust and care. However, due to the soaring cost of living, sanitary pads have become unaffordable for many women, mainly in the outstation rural areas.
“When it was reported that girl children were cutting school due to the high cost of sanitary pads, affecting their education, we wanted to bring the solution and made it our mission to step in.”
“As a brand of The Capital Maharaja Group which always steps up to address national needs, this is nothing new to us. Every girl should dream, and no girl should ever be left behind because of her period.
“Girls have a responsibility to go to school, educate themselves and contribute to their homes, community and to the nation. Eva as the market leader and as a brand which has continuously empowered girls and women has come forward with a solution,” she added.
Eva is no stranger to evolving their products and providing solutions where they matter. Over a period of 35 years, Eva has strived to improve and change their products in order to celebrate and elevate the lives of strong and confident women across the nation.
As a prestigious member of The Capital Maharaja Group, ICL Brands Ltd. carries a longstanding history in bringing world renowned consumer products for the local market and locally manufactured brands with high quality and with product innovations in line with international standards.
