Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday expressed confidence that 90% of the issues in the sector will be solved by the middle of next year.
“Since August we have managed to end the fuel queues largely due to a systematic distribution mechanism introduced,” he told the House during the committee stage debate of the 2023 Budget.
Minister Wijesekera said despite the availability of limited resources, the Government has been able to end the era of fuel queues through the use of the National Fuel Pass or the QR system.
He also outlined that the power outage duration has been reduced to two hours at present, citing that when he took over the Ministry it has 12-13 hour power cuts imposed daily.
