“has gained traction for championing the cause of one of the most overlooked members of the natural environment – our ocean giants”.
LMD points out that de Vos remains committed to “giving back to her native land,” having established Sri Lanka’s first marine conservation research and education nonprofit Oceanswell, which is conducting the first long-term study on blue whales in this region as its flagship project.
It adds: “Never one to shy away from a challenge, she inspires Sri Lankans and citizens across the world to continue to reach for their dreams – even when they may seem impossible.”
“Dr. Asha de Vos is a true inspiration – in the field of marine biology certainly but perhaps more importantly, for anyone anywhere who is chasing an unorthodox dream,” LMD concludes.
LMD’s 24th ‘Sri Lankan Of The Year’ joins the company of many of the island’s eminent citizens over the years, a number of whom have had their names etched in the annals of the nation’s history.
