Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has instructed officials to resume development work of internal airports and flights by next month. As such, the Colombo-Jaffna scheduled flights will resume by next month subject to strict health protocols.
Ranatunga also said the Government was focusing on the resumption of Jaffna-Chennai direct flights.
Domestic flights from Colombo-Ratmalana Airport to Jaffna-Palaly Airport were operated twice a week before the country announced the lockdown in March last year following the outbreak of COVID-19.
The Minister had instructed officials to explore the possibility of making daily domestic flights between Colombo and Jaffna.
He said special attention would be paid to development of the Palaly Airport in Jaffna, which had been hampered due to the pandemic. Special attention will be paid to this in the future as well.
