The Government has launched the first Digital Land Registry Service (DLRS) at the Colombo Land Registry as a pilot project.

Irrigation Minister and State Minister of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management, Chamal Rajapaksa, Ministry of Defence Secretary Gen. (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne and Registrar General K.P. Dharamathilaka attended the launch. The Government plans to launch the service at 45 Registrar offices countrywide by the end of the year.

The DLRS will use the ‘e-land’ software to digitally register land ownership documentation with the aim of streamlining the process and doing away with short comings of the pervious paper-based system. The Government anticipates that the DLRS will reduce land ownership irregularities, speed up trade and improve the ease of doing business in the country.

“The computerised system will be more efficient and deliver the public a range of new services. It will also mean that the public will not have to deal with middle men and the possibility of irregularities or falsification of documents will substantially reduce,” the Government said in a statement.
