A weekend of scintillating 7’s action is in store this weekend, as the much-anticipated Interclub Rugby 7’s, the most prestigious 7’s tournament in Sri Lanka’s rugby calendar, kicks off on 29 and 30 June at the Racecourse Grounds, Colombo.
The Dialog Rugby Club 7’s tournament attracts thousands of spectators, both young and old, who enjoy fast and furious rugby action from Sri Lanka’s leading clubs.
In this year’s Dialog Rugby Club 7’s, 16 teams will fight it out for the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield Championships during two days of fast-paced action. Leading rugby clubs including CH & FC, Navy SC, Police SC, Air Force FC, Army SC will play A and B teams, while CR & FC, Kandy SC, Havelock SC and provincial clubs including Peterson SC, Galle RFC and Malay CC will only field a single team to compete for top honours at this year’s tournament.
In last year’s Dialog Rugby Club 7’s, the First Leg was won by Kandy SC beating Police SC A 26 points to 5 and with the Second Leg won by CR & FC beating CH & FC A 21 points to 12 going on to be crowned as overall champions after fending off a spirited late challenge by CH & FC gaining 85 tournament points, while Air Force A secured the runners-up position by gaining 81 tournament points and third place by Navy A gaining 78 tournament points.
The final day’s play of the Dialog Rugby Club 7’s tournament will go live on Sri Lanka’s premier pay TV provider Dialog Television on channel number 77 and sports hub ThePapare.com.
