The Court of Appeal declared yesterday that the decision on whether to hold a hearing on the petition filed to challenge the Cabinet of Ministers decision to upwardly revise the electricity tariff will be made on 17 February.
The petitions filed by the Electricity Consumers’ Association and the Centre for Environmental Justice was taken up before the two-member Appellate Court bench consisting of Justices Dhammika Ganepola and Sobhitha Rajakaruna yesterday.
The Court of Appeal decided that the judgement about whether or not to allow the petition to be heard would be made on 17 February after considering the evidence given.
The Additional Solicitor General, who appeared on behalf of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and other respondents of the case, presented the proposal of the Cabinet related to the electricity tariff revision.
