The Government has decided to offer two key projects connected to the new Eastern Terminal in the Colombo Port to Chinese companies.
Decisions to this effect was made by the Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Tuesday.
Consequent to Cabinet approval to develop the Eastern Container Terminal in stages as a terminal totally operated by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, international competitive bids were invited for Phase II. Three bids were received and the Cabinet of Ministers this week approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Ports and Shipping to award the procurement to Access Engineering Company and China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. on the recommendation of the Cabinet-Appointed Procurement Committee.
Separately, the recommendation of the Procurement Appeals Board to grant the contract of supplying 12 ship-to-land cranes and 40 rail-mounted automatic gantry cranes for the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Eastern Container Terminal to Shanghai Shenuma Heavy Industries was also approved. This contract had received six bids.
