The Cabinet of Ministers has given the green light to allow the importation, supply, and sale of Jet A-1 aviation fuel to bunkers registered with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to ensure the continuation of aviation services.
The joint proposal to this effect submitted by Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday.
The daily requirement for aviation fuel for airlines operating into Colombo is around 1.2 million litres.
However, at present, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has failed to provide even the minimum requirement to maintain operations of domestic and foreign airlines under the prevailing situation.
