Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga has returned 4 of the 12 vehicles allocated to her by the Presidential Secretariat. In a letter sent to the Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Kumaratunga said the decision was taken after the “Government informed us it is facing serious
financial constraints”.
The vehicles returned include a Mercedes Benz Car, Nissan Patrol Jeep, Mahendra Double Cab, and a Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep. The former President said in the letter that nine of the vehicles have been allocated for her personal use, as well as for the use of her office and for her security personnel.
Three vehicles have been allocated by the Police to her security division. Kumaratunga said she plans to return more of the vehicles in the coming days.
