Highly respected Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy has notified his resignation from the post from 20 December. The notification had been prior to the conduct of the Presidential Election, the Daily FT learns.
The Monetary Policy Review for November is expected to be announced on Friday.
Coomaraswamy was appointed Governor in July 2016, replacing Arjuna Mahendran whose tenure was mired by allegations of corruption. The Global Capital Markets publication in October 2017 named Coomaraswamy as the Central Bank Governor of the Year in South Asia.
In August this year President Maithripala Sirisena conferred ‘National Honours’ on distinguished personalities for the outstanding and invaluable service rendered by them to the Motherland.
